Residential Assistant Position

Description

Part-Time and Full-Time: Benefits and Salary are competitive based on current area market analysis

The Residential Assistant position requires an individual to be an integral part of a professional healthcare team to assist in long term recovery of adults suffering from the disease of addiction. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Jackie Nitschke Center Service standards; includes but is not limited to the following responsibilities. Position includes night and weekend shifts.

Responsibilities

As a member of our client’s treatment team, you would be assisting our clients with activities of daily living. You would also be promoting accurate implementation of Behavior Plans, reporting concerns and implementing changes as needed. Duties may include assistance in the following areas:

  • Medication monitoring
  • Health monitoring
  • Functional community skills
  • Monitors/reports client behavior in all environments
  • Potential for redirecting behavioral challenges
  • Maintain client records
  • Provide supportive training in daily living skills and food preparation
  • Intervene in emergency situations and attempt to avert potential crises
  • Assist to maintain cleanliness, safety, and physical condition of home and premises
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality
    Exercise sound personal judgement
  • Report allegations of abuse, resident rights violations conflict of interest, harassment, or fraud to management.
  • Establish positive relationship with client, family, and their support network.
  • Encourages client compliance with the treatment the therapist/counselor is providing
  • Meal prep and light household maintenance

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have knowledge and understanding of chemical dependency.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to adhere to team culture and principles.
  • Must have the ability to relate to people in a caring and understanding manner.
  • Must have basic household management skills.
  • Must have the ability to carry out any responsibilities delegated in the absence of other staff.
  • Prefer a minimum of two years chemically-free living if a recovering alcoholic or addict.
  • Ability to maintain self-composure and self-control under stressful conditions.

THERAPIST

Description

The Therapist will be responsible for conducting effective and professional direct therapy for individuals, couples, and families affected by mental illness and/or alcohol or drug abuse or dependency. Regular attendance and punctuality along with being prepared to commence work at designated work locations, on the assigned or scheduled days and hours is expected.

Responsibilities:

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide direct service therapy to clients with mental health and/or substance use disorders and their families. This will include individual, couples, family therapy, primary treatment and continued care groups, as necessary for the population of clients at any given time.
  • Provide Screenings, Intake, Assessment, Diagnosis, to individuals with mental illness and/or chemical dependency issues. Complete treatment plans with clients to address identified needs and work with a multidisciplinary team to provide the needed level of care.
  • Develop and maintain accurate case management records of assessment, treatment and current status/condition as required by state statute. Comply with DHS Chapter 35 and 75 requirements.
  • Provide educational information to community groups and individuals. Present training in the area of AODA and inpatient treatment to medical professionals and staff members as needed.
  • Assist in developing and providing ancillary groups or special services to other community programs relative to special needs populations, i.e., youth, elderly, women, minorities and others as deemed necessary.

Responsibilities Continued:

General Job Functions

  • Coordinate inpatient psychiatric treatment with other staff members and community and state agencies (as needed). This includes ongoing case management of services, (follow-along and follow-up) as needed.
  • Provide educational information and consultation to community groups, educational facilities, and individuals regarding department services and various issues relative to mental health, chemical addiction and emotional wellness.
  • Present training in the area of psychotherapy, addictions and patient treatment to community, medical professionals, and staff members as needed.
  • Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary agency clinical team. Participate in client staffing, offer cross-disciplinary training to staff and cooperate as a team member in the delivery of treatment to consumers with co-occurring disorders.

Requirements:

Training and Experience

  1. Graduate of a certified college with a MA/MSW Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Sociology or related area.
  2. Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor or Substance Abuse Counselor license required and Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Professional Counselor preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills and abilities

  1. Knowledge of and experience in working with clients with Mental Health and AODA Diagnosis.
  2. Knowledge of and experience with prevention, intervention, assessment and treatment modalities.
  3. Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing at a level commensurate to the educational background needed for this position.
  4. Able to effectively conduct interviews and counseling with AODA and MH clients.
  5. Capable of conducting successful crisis intervention assessment and disposition.
  6. Capable of developing and maintaining effective relationships with clients, their families, fellow workers and other community health professionals.
  7. Possess emotional maturity, sound judgment and capable of working among a dynamic team of professionals.
  8. Knowledge of basic computer operation and familiarity with word processing and data entry software.
  9. Working knowledge of DHS Chapters, 20, 34, 35, 51.20, 55, 75, 90, 94, 331.

Requirements Continued:

Physical & Working Conditions

  1. Over 50% of the time is spent talking and hearing.
  2. 50% to 75% of the time is spent sitting and 10% of the time is spent walking or standing.
  3. There is occasional lifting of up to 15 lbs., and in unusual situations there is stooping, kneeling, balance and reaching.
  4. Observing clients is approximately 25% to 50% of the time.
